First of three funding windows open for 2017's South Auckland projects.
The South Auckland Participatory Science Platform (PSP) has been given the green light for another year, with $180,000 available to support new regional projects and boost locals' connections with science and technology.
The pilot initiative is also known as SouthSci and managed by Sarah Morgan: "The SouthSci team are really excited for 2017 – the projects we had in 2016 were fantastic, we can only imagine the ideas that will come forward this year."
Either a community group or their science partners can apply for funding and they can request up to $20,000 per project. All proposals are due by 5pm, 3 March 2017.
SouthSci is one of three region-specific pilot funding initiatives, with the other two based in Otago and Taranaki. The timing of this funding round does not apply to the other two PSP regions.
Past projects have included making sustainable housing from waste plastic, looking at plant genes in wētā poo, and investigating mould in the home.
The Participatory Science Platform is an initiative under A Nation of Curious Minds – He Whenua Hihiri i te Mahara, the Government’s strategic plan to encourage all New Zealanders to get engaged with science and technology.
