Head along to Britomart in Auckland to see Kiwi artist Flox painting a wetland-themed mural and Seventh Generation creating a wetland right in Takutai Square as part of a fundraising effort for a project restoring Rangihoua Wetland on Waiheke Island.

With every gold coin donation, Flox will continue to bring to life the mural of a restored wetland and each panel will be auctioned at a later date on TradeMe, with funds going towards the restoration project. With each donation, visitors will also receive Seventh Generation laundry detergent to take home.

Wetlands are the kidneys of the earth, filtering pollutants and contaminants that would otherwise wash into our rivers and oceans. Many of our native species and wildlife call them home, but only 10% of Aotearoa’s former wetlands remain (Wetlands Directory, DOC, 1996).

A partnership between The Million Meters Stream Project and Seventh Generation is set to drive action towards protecting this precious resource that is critical to the health of the earth. For the Waiheke Island restoration project, working alongside the Waiheke Resources Trust, the team hopes to raise $50,000 this summer to plant 4,000 native trees and shrubs and restore over 1,170 metres of wetland. For every donation received, Seventh Generation will match the money raised, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000.
