The Royal Society of New Zealand is offering many international science opportunities in Europe, United States, Asia and Australasia.
Students who are selected to attend any of these opportunities will be funded for most of their international travel and registration costs.
Students who apply must be studying at least two science subjects and achieving very good results in their studies.

We are looking for emerging thinkers who will be tomorrow’s doers – the people who will be tasked with solving some of the biggest issues facing the world.
This unique opportunity will see New Zealand’s most promising young students come together to seek answers to some of the world’s biggest problems, supported and guided by our mentors and world-class science leaders. Whether we make baby steps or giant leaps, we’ll do it together and learn from each other.

Clean Tech is a unique, worldwide research and design challenge for young people that encourages scientific understanding of real-world issues and the integration of environmentally responsible energy resources. The competition is designed to foster a deeper understanding of STEM related concepts, recognize outstanding talent and prepare the next generation of globally competitive innovators.

Technology Online is a site dedicated to educators, students, and all those with an interest in technology education in New Zealand. It showcases examples of contemporary teaching and learning and provides curriculum support materials.

Other useful materials for students
- Young Ocean Explorers - a truly interactive video series about the sea and its wildlife, hosted by school student Riley and her dad Steve.
- GNS Science learning – Earth science resources.
- GeoNet – a source of real-time New Zealand seismographs and volcano cams.
- Landcare Research website includes 'what is this bug', an insect identification tool in English and Māori.
- National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) – offers research, educational material, publications, maps, FAQ, teachers' and students' sections, and links to the various national centres of NIWA. This is also a source of climate data that students can use in science projects.
- Department of Conservation – provides current conservation topics to help students learn and care for the New Zealand environment. The site includes background information, teacher resources, and possible school field trips to support educational experiences outside the classroom.
- LEARNZ for years 1-13, is a series of virtual field trips for science. This covers a wide variety of topics and visiting a wide variety of locations, LEARNZ online field trips are self-contained and free for New Zealand teachers and their classes.
- NZ Transport Agency curriculum resources– units that explore science concepts in the context of road safety and crash avoidance. These are aimed at Years 9-10 and at NCEA Level 1 Physics (achievement standard 90936).
- Digistore: Te Pātaka Matihiko– contains more than 1500 science digital learning objects for use with primary and secondary school students.
- Royal Society of New Zealand– promotes science and technology in schools, industry and society.
- LENScience– provides teachers and students with access to scientific research communities. Programmes are designed to inspire schools to maximise student potential through a wide range of high quality learning opportunities for both students and teachers, and include the use of satellite television and the internet. This resource is provided by the Liggins Institute, University of Auckland.
